Iberospinus

                               Iberospinus

Ok, dinosaurs are discovered and named all the time but this one is a little more famous then others. It was also made a new species in 2019 so it's not that new but new enough. Anyway, I will give you some basic info on this dinosaur.

Iberospinus means (Iberian spine) since it was found of the coast of The Iberian Peninsula. It was a spinosaurid which lived in the Early Creataceous. The person who discovered the Iberospinus is named Carlos Natario. The Iberospinus' bones indicate that it might of had a semi-aquatic lifestyle like it's relatives. It was about 30-33ft long, about 10-11ft in height and it would probably have weighed between 1.5-2 tons.

Although the Iberospinus is a spinosaur it's not in the spinosaurinae or baryonychinae. You might think it looks like a Suchosaurus or Baryonyx but it isn't. But Estraviz-Lopez explained the fossil material had characteristics that made it closer related to baryonichines. So it's basicly a cousin to Baryonyx and a second cousin to a spinosaurus.

The first fossil of an Iberospinus was found in 1999. Other expeditions to the Iberian Peninsula were in 2004 and 2008. It was first thought to be a Baryonyx but in 2019 it was made it's own species.

So that's it for this article. I hope you enjoyed it and remember we post regularly.
